2023 In Review

Growth

The Heart Hackathon stemmed from a thoughtful idea to bridge the gap in student team opportunities for biomedical initiatives within universities. This initiative also aimed to contribute towards addressing the challenges associated with heart failure, by bringing fresh minds to the table with novel ideas.

At the time of the competition’s official launch in early 2022, Heart Hackathon had only two sponsors and a single registered team.

Following a dynamic and exhilarating inaugural iteration of the competition, the Heart Hackathon had grown to nine teams across seven countries with over one hundred and fifty students.

Events

We have hosted nine online events to engage and educate our participants, including educational webinars, an industry showcase and a symposium of team presentations. Owing to the support of our sponsors, these events have offered the invaluable opportunity for these young innovators to connect with industry experts, while demonstrating what these bright young minds are working on within their teams.

Grand Final

The highly anticipated 2023 Grand Final event appropriately concluded the first round of the Heart Hackathon. Qualifying teams were invited to attend the in-person event in Dallas, Texas, in partnership with the ISMCS 2023 Conference.

Teams gave presentations on their TAH designs and commercialization plans, with some bringing their prototypes to display. A panel of technical experts assessed the quality and novelty of the teams’ work. Teams previous assessments and Grand Final presentation were all taken into weighty consideration, before the 2023 Prizes were awarded.

Impact

The teams went above and beyond expectations, driving change in their own educations and achieving world recognition to their universities.
Teams didn’t just sign up for a contest - they pursued passions and challenges with boundless energy and courage. We cannot wait to see what 2024 brings.

I learned more from the single year of competing in HeartHackathon than the entire 4 years of my undergraduate studies. It’s an invaluable experience.
