Why get involved in the Heart Hackathon

Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death globally. A significant proportion of CVD patients will suffer heart failure, ultimately requiring a heart transplant. In certain circumstances, a total artificial heart (TAH) is the best option for the patient while waiting for a donor heart to be found, or to facilitate the patient’s heart to recover.

We need you to help drive innovation in this essential
& exciting industry!

We are inviting and challenging students to consider the future of TAH technologies via the Heart Hackathon, a year-long competition for student teams (undergraduate and graduate) to work on innovative solutions for many TAH challenges.

Through this event, students will be given the opportunity to connect with industry professionals and researchers in the field of artificial hearts, revealing new networks, pathways, and job opportunities.

Students from all disciplines are encouraged to participate!

Vision

Forge connections among students globally by engaging them in an annual international competition centered on cardiovascular innovation through the development of a Total Artificial Heart (TAH).

Mission

A year-long competition that fosters student-led innovation in cardiovascular design, facilitated through collaborations with leading institutions and industry professionals.

Goals

Offer students hands-on experience in interdisciplinary team projects to research, design, and construct a TAH, connecting them with industry professionals and experts while fostering the development of technical, business, and professional skills, all with a focus on sustainable and cost-effective practices.
