Bio: Alberta Heart is an interdisciplinary Engineering Student Project at the University of Alberta focused on the research, design, and prototyping of Total Artificial Heart (TAH) technologies as alternatives to organic transplants. In January 2025, Alberta Heart became the first Canadian team to register for the Heart Hackathon Competition. We quickly grew to an average of 40 active students from across the University, bringing together a wide range of disciplines. That diversity has been one of our greatest strengths—our team mirrors the interdisciplinary nature of real-world healthcare innovation. We’re working to create a culture of engagement, ownership, and community—one where students feel supported, challenged, and excited to contribute. Through the Alberta Heart initiative, we strive to not only innovate but also to inspire students to contribute to a future where cutting-edge medical solutions improve patient outcomes globally.
